Jujol

Josep Maria Jujol was born in 1879 in the city of Tarragona, although his parents came from the country. His father was a schoolteacher, who for career reasons moved with the family to Gracia when Jujol was nine years old. Gracia was at that time still a village, and not yet incorporated into Greater Barcelona. The family later moved again, permanently, into the centre of Barcelona proper. Jujol nevertheless felt bound all his life to his parents' native countryside, and his strongly emotional relationship with their home region was to exert a decisive influence over the development of his architecture.
